Marc Argento, Plumping Superintendent, is recognized as Safety Champion of the Month for his outstanding dedication to safety, leadership, and proactive jobsite practices.
At SPC, safety is more than a requirement —it’s a culture driven by the people on our job sites every day. This month we are proud to recognize Marc Argento as a Safety Champion for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe work environment across the Hannah Street Pump Station and PS-SI sites in Staten Island.
Marc began his career as a plumber apprentice in 1999 and brings over 27 years of experience in the trade. Now serving as Plumping Superintendent for both the Hannah St. Pump Station and PS-SI sites, Marc continues to set the standard for “safety above all” for everyone on site. His leadership demonstrates an understanding of the importance of safety and the responsibility that comes with keeping his crews safe.
A standout quality of Marc is his attention to detail and commitment to hazard prevention. Marc regularly conducts thorough job hazard analyses and daily pre-task planning sessions to ensure that all work is executed safely. His ability to anticipate risks associated with plumbing activities, such as confined space work, trenching, and material handling, has significantly reduced exposure to potential hazards. In addition, Marc has contributed to incident prevention by quickly addressing near-misses and implementing corrective actions.
Recently, Marc demonstrated his proactive safety practices while overseeing a pressure test on interim bypass piping. Before the test began, Marc made signs on his own and placed them at all access points to the test to ensure no worker would access the test area. As it turned out, a joint failed, causing a pipe to dislodge, and slam into a protective bulkhead. Due to Marc’s ability to assess the work for potential foreseeable hazards, no workers were exposed to danger, and he prevented what could have been a serious incident.
Marc’s willingness to speak up, collaborate with site safety personnel, and continuously improve processes has had a measurable positive impact on overall site safety performance.
“I commend Marc for his proactive behavior as he always converses with me regarding any safety concerns with his crew, said Ivyann Castillo, EHS Site Representative. “Whether it’s a fall protection hazard, confined space training, PPE, etc., prior to any specific activity starting.”
“Marc’s attention to the dangers present, and proactive approach to safety should be recognized."
