SPC Construction's 2026 Summer Interns head to the field for a behind the scenes look at the work being done at the Palisades Tunnel Project
As part of SPC Construction's ongoing Summer Internship Program, interns recently visited the Palisades Tunnel Project, continuing a series of project tours and learning opportunities designed to introduce future industry professionals to the diverse work taking place across the organization.
During the visit, interns heard directly from project team members about the Palisades Tunnel Project, the first tunnel boring contract of the Hudson Tunnel Project. The project will construct approximately one mile of new twin rail tunnels on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, supporting improvements to capacity, reliability, and resiliency along the Northeast Corridor while advancing one of the nation's most significant transportation infrastructure investments.
Interns toured the active jobsite to learn more about the engineering, planning, and construction activities underway and gain firsthand insight into the complexity of delivering large-scale underground infrastructure. The group also visited the Hudson Tunnel Project Community Outreach Center, where they explored the project's history, regional importance, and long-term benefits for commuters and communities throughout the Northeast.
Dan Peterson, SPC Vice President of Operations – NJ shared his career journey, leadership insights, and perspectives on the opportunities available within the construction industry. His advice and experiences offered interns valuable guidance as they continue to develop professionally.
The Palisades Tunnel visit is one of several opportunities SPC provides throughout the summer to connect interns with different projects, disciplines, and leaders across the company. By experiencing a variety of jobsites and engaging with project teams firsthand, interns gain a broader understanding of the many career paths within construction while building relationships across the organization.
