We are pleased to announce that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has approved the award of contract RESAMSAF-CP to SPC Construction for the In-City Dam Rehabilitation at Central Park Reservoir. Valued at $61.227M, the project will upgrade and modernize critical infrastructure within one of New York City’s most historic landmarks.
Originally constructed in the mid-1800s and decommissioned in 1993, the approximately 1-billion-gallon, 106-acre Central Park Reservoir (CPR) currently relies on aging drawdown systems and 160-year-old equipment dating back to its original construction. The project will replace and rehabilitate key components to meet current safety standards and improve long-term reliability and operational performance.
The scope of work includes improvements to the Central Park Reservoir’s infrastructure and embankment, including rehabilitation of downslope areas, upgrades to existing piping and drainage systems, rehabilitation of a 48-inch brick sewer using cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining, and filling and permanent abandonment of existing water mains. The reservoir’s existing historical gatehouses will also be rehabilitated and restored in accordance to landmark requirements. These essential improvements across the CPR’s embankment, infrastructure, and facilities will strengthen overall performance, enabling the reservoir to draw down up to 90% of its water within a 14-day period.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for SPC, as it represents the first project award since our integration—and we expect it to be the first of many as we continue to build a strong backlog of profitable work. The SPC team is actively preparing for Notice to Proceed, which is anticipated for June 2026.
Congratulations to the entire Estimating Team on this achievement!
