At SPC, safety is more than a requirement—it’s a culture driven by the people on our job sites every day. This month, we are proud to recognize three outstanding laborers from the Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Street Coastal Resilience (BMCR) Project who continue to set the standard for working safely, maintaining clean and organized work areas, and looking out for one another.
Myron Edwards, Labor Foreman; Said Bovali, Laborer; and Derrick Dixon, Laborer are named April 2026 Safety Champions for their outstanding commitment to safety, leadership, and proactive safe jobsite practices.
"When we talk about the SPC safety culture, it’s employees like Myron, Said, and Derrick who truly define it. Their commitment to safe work practices, attention to housekeeping, and willingness to look out for others embody what it means to be a Safety Champion," says Bruno Rodrigues, BMCR Safety Manager.
Myron (Pictured Left) has quickly established himself as a strong and dependable foreman since joining the BMCR site on November 5, 2025. New to the project but already making an impact, Myron leads with both competence and patience. He takes the time to properly train and guide younger employees, ensuring they understand not just how to do the work—but how to do it safely. His leadership is helping build a stronger, safer crew every day.
Said (Pictured Middle) has been part of the BMCR project since January 9, 2024, making him one of the original team members on site. This marks Said’s second recognition as a Safety Champion—this time with a different crew—demonstrating that his commitment to safety is consistent no matter the environment. Said brings a positive attitude to work every day and is always eager to learn, improve, and enhance the safety of his work area. His enthusiasm and mindset make him a valued member of the team.
Derrick (Pictured Right) joined the BMCR project on September 10, 2025, bringing with him over 15 years of experience from Picone prior to the SPC integration. Derrick leads by example when it comes to safety. He consistently looks out for both himself and his coworkers, never hesitating to speak up if something isn’t being done safely. Whether it’s correcting a hazard or taking extra time to improve site conditions, Derrick goes above and beyond to ensure everyone goes home safe.
Please join us in congratulating Myron, Said, and Derrick on this well-deserved recognition and thanking them for their continued hard work and dedication.
We are seeking nominations for employees who consistently demonstrate an exceptional commitment to safety in the workplace. All team members — including project personnel, field crews and office staff — can nominate and are eligible for recognition. If you would like to nominate an individual for Safety Champion of the Month, please contact Michele Krugman (michelekrugman@SPCco.com) and include a brief explanation of why you believe your nominee exemplifies leadership in safety.
